Attention SCCC Student Veterans! Money Available for the VetCenter Initiative

Do you have space on campus for a veteran center, but no furniture? Or, have you always wanted a veteran center, but lack the resources to construct one? If your answer is “yes” – or even “maybe” – to either of those questions, you’re in the right place!

SVA is proud to announce the VetCenter Initiative, a collaborative project with The Home Depot that offers 5-10 grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to chapters for the purpose of renovating – or building – a veteran resource center on their campus. Funds can be used for anything sold by The Home Depot – including their online store. Lighting, cabinetry, countertops, couches, desks, paint, or tools – if you need it, The Home Depot has it.

How the VetCenter Initiative works:

Step 1: Create and submit a Chapter Business Plan and Budget
– Base on the SVA Example Business Plan
– Must include your chapter’s mission statement, goals, objectives, and strategies
– Create and upload a chapter budget

Step 2: Develop and submit a Project Outline
At a minimum, outlines must include the following:
– Goal of project
– How the project goal will be achieved
– Project budget including line item expenses (not just $10,000 for veteran center)
– Location of project
– How the veteran resource center will be operated
– Start and completion dates (must complete project by December 2014)

Step 3: Obtain an official letter of support from your school President

Step 4: (Optional): Create a Pitch
Be creative! Pitches can be in the form of, but are not limited to the following:
– Videos
– Essays
– Power Point Presentations (saved as a .pdf file)
– (insert your great idea here!)

Only complete applications will be considered. Applications will be judged on the following:
– Need for the grant
– Quality of the application
– Creativity/Persuasiveness

SVA will be accepting applications until Friday, February 28, 2014!
